Running to breakfast: Jamba Juice!

Not exactly a very exciting venue but what IS exciting is the fact that I have been given the green light to increase my distance, gradually, to 10km’s… and to keep running roughly every second day!!!!!!!!!!

So this called for a bit of a celebration with the girls! And a different running venue to just around Jumeirah Village Circle!

So we headed off to Kite Beach to enjoy the track and then follow it up with a jamba juice smoothie after the run ๐Ÿ™‚

The run itself was nothing to really talk about – I’m now up to 6km’s – but man does it feel good to be increasing the distance, and running more than 5km’s WITH NO PAIN or discomfort. The next step is 7.5km’s…. then 8.5km’s… then the biggie – 10km’s!!!!

Of course the increase in distance is happening as the temperatures increase so it might be a bit difficult to maintain the plan, but I am going to do my best!

Taken off a Google search as I didn’t take any photos on the day.

Running to breakfast – Al Qudra

Al Qudra is a well-known cycle track out in, pretty much, the middle of nowhere, towards the vast open desert lands. Dubai Municipality have taken the initiative to pave a pathway for cyclists that runs parallel to the road, but separate from the road for safety’s sake.

But are runners allowed there?

Well, my running buddies and I decided we’d give it a try and find out the hard way – we just arrived there one morning, hopped out the car bikeless, and hoped for the best.

Since it was our first time to this area we decided to test out the ‘facilities’ and were completely wowed by them – a totally nondescript building from the outside, but upon entering it’s as if you’re stepping into a hotel’s toilet facilities. Beautifully and tastefully decorated, lockers running along the one wall, shower and separate changing stalls along another wall, and then a row of toilets. Completely unexpected great start to our run ๐Ÿ™‚

The nondescript facilities ๐Ÿ™‚

Once we’d got that out of the way we headed outside and did a bit of a warm up, questioning if we’d actually be able to run as we saw only cyclists all around us. We eventually decided to ask a group of cyclists and they were extremely helpful and friendly – giving us the advice to ensure we stayed left (facing oncoming traffic), and enjoy!

So we set off, with no distance in mind – just to run until we felt like turning around, and then run back. The track, and scenery, are exceptionally boring, but this is a very safe area to get some decent mileage in, without being too crowded.

The temperatures are starting to make life rather difficult and so after only about 6km’s we really started feeling the heat and were all very glad that we were only 1-ish km’s away from being back at the start line… and we now had breakfast to look forward to!

After our first choice of location was shut for maintenance, we landed up at Nathalie’s in Sports City for breakfast. We all immediately ordered delicious freshly squeezed juices of different flavours, and then got the food orders stuck in, which we pretty much managed to wolf down. Yum!

# 11 – Jumeirah Open Beach running track

I’ve finally made it down to the (new-ish) track that has been built along Jumeirah Open Beach. And what a lovely track it is!

It was quite random that I happened upon the track… I was out a few days ago on a run, and halfway into the run I completely lost interest (this is something that I’m quite used to at the moment, but am tryingย really hardย to get rid of) and so I turned around and walked home. And on the way home, I could obviously spend more time looking at my surroundings and one of the things I noticed was this couple running along part of the walkway that had a weird green tint to it.

“That’s a strange colour for paving” I thought to myself. So I made a slight detour to see what it was and as I got closer I started thinking that it must be track, but, green?! I had never seen a green running track before!

Well, I was pleasantly surprised when I reached the track – it really was running track – the track that people have been speaking about for ages!!

So I planned a run that would incorporate this track so that I could include it in my “something new” for this week ๐Ÿ™‚

It was a fabulous run – it was to be my last big-ish run before the half marathon on Friday so I wanted to practice keeping a slow pace; one that I am hoping I’ll survive for the race. And I’d say I did a pretty good job of it ๐Ÿ™‚ I was aiming for a 6:30 pace, so it might actually be a bit fast, especially considering the bad luck I’ve had for the last 2 months with my running… but it felt great knowing that I was able to keep at the pace I wanted to for the whole run!

To say I’m nervous for Friday’s race would be an understatement… I’m pooping myself! But I am going to go out there and do it. I know I can! Just keep slow and steady.

I wonder what next week will bring??? ๐Ÿ™‚ Watch this space to find out!!!
