# 13 – Back to School

What fun this past week’s “something new” was πŸ™‚

On Thursday, I had no plans to do anything crazy except go for a run (Friday and Saturday were both going to be big party days / nights πŸ™‚ ). While chatting to my friend JP, I mentioned I was going running and she said she was going to play football at DAA… and she very casually threw into the conversation that they have a great running track. Sold! I had planned to do interval training so this was perfect!

I headed across to the school at about 8pm – and boy was it weird to walk into a school again. I honestly cannot remember when the last time was. Maybe my high school reunion? I’ve visited my sister’s school where she teaches but with it being a primary school it’s slightly different. It felt quite weird to walk along the halls!

Well, I headed outside and enjoyed some good interval training for the night. I started with a 1-lap (400 m) warm up, then ran 1 lap slightly faster. From there I got into my intervals… running 200 m fast, 100 m a bit slower and 100 m walk. I did this for about 4 or 5 laps (lost count), and then did 2 laps for a cool down. I think it was about 30 minutes in total and I loved every second of it! I got my fastest sprint up to a pace of 2:58 / km πŸ™‚

Unfortunately I somehow managed to delete the photos I took of the school / the night so I’ve taken a stock photo from a google search for you instead.Dubai American Academy

As of today, I have now run for 10 days in a row, however I’m not being stupid about it… Most of those runs are only 2.5 km’s or 3 km’s, with the longest run being only 6 km’s. Some of them have been difficult to get through either being tired or not in the mood, but I’ve made a real effort and I think I’ll manage this run.every.day thing. I have a long run (14 km’s) planned for Saturday night so I’ll let you know how that one goes πŸ™‚

# 9 – Saw, 7

Well, after all the excitement and huge amount of new things tried last week, this week pales in comparison! However, I do have something new that happened, plus I’m going to throw in some cheeky “not quite new” items πŸ˜‰

You’ve heard of the Saw movies, right? Well, we had our very own version of it in the house this week! JP brokJigsawe her arm a few weeks ago and has been itching to take the cast off for ages now… she’d even pondered taking it off in Nepal so that she could raft properly but, thank goodness, she decided to keep it on! Anyway, on Monday night she came home and declared “Right, this cast is coming off now!” and so N brought out a hacksaw, I found the camera, we opened a bottle of wine (to calm everyone’s nerves) and N set off cutting away at the cast.

It was nerve-wracking to say the least! But after lots of sawing, stopping, rubbing against skin, cutting, pulling and more cutting the cast finally CAME OFF! Only 10 days shy of what the Doctor ordered πŸ™‚

OK, and now for my cheeky “not quite new” items…

  1. Β I haveΒ once againΒ started kickboxing, and I’m adamant that this time I will do it every 2 weeks πŸ™‚
  2. I’ve started my “run every day” challenge (with a few sneaky breaks in for the half marathon on 20th March training)
  3. On my run yesterday evening I encountered the dreadful “must.have.toilet.NOW” affliction, which I’ve had before but was close to home so it wasn’t a problem… last night I was still over 2 km’s from home so had to find one ASAP! Luckily I was running at the local park and they have public toilets that I could run in and use 😳 Now I know to not eat biltong (or jerky) before a run!
