Date ideas around Dubai

I currently do not have a significant other (unless you consider Emmett?!) but the other day I was having a bit of a walk down memory lane – it was also recently Valentine’s Day 😳 – and I remembered some of the good / great / downright awful dates I’ve been on in the past… and I thought that I’d share some of these with you so that if you’ve got a hot date and don’t know what to do / where to go then you needΒ look no further than this blog post πŸ™‚ ❀

  • Paddleboarding at sunset

This one probably wins hands down. It was by far one of the most romantic, if not the most romantic date that I have ever been on. We met on the beach just before sunset (he brought the paddleboards), pumped up the boards and set off… eventually ending up just sitting on them, floating around while we watched the sun go down. After some time of lying about we headed back to land and then lay on the boards, on the sand, chatting away for what felt like forever.

  • Dinner and dance show

We went to a dinner and dance show at Pacha (which is now closed), however they still have the same concept running at The Act – I’ve actually been here too, it just wasn’t on a date, but I highly recommend it! You spend the night enthralled by some outstanding performances on a stage set out right in front of you, while you eat your way through multiple courses of delicious food and sip on beverages of your choice. It’s as if the theatre is jumping right out of your plate πŸ™‚

  • Movies under the stars

One of the cheapest nights out so if you’re on a tight budget, then this is highly recommended! There are lots of places around Dubai that are starting to offer movies under the stars, but my recommendations are for the rooftop at Wafi, or West 14th at Oceana, Palm Jumeirah. It’s as simple as checking what the movie being played is, grabbing a bean bag on arrival (free entry!), and loading up on popcorn, nibbles and even some of the ‘naughty-but-nice’ type of beverages πŸ˜‰

  • Cheese and Wine night

Well, there’s not much that I need to say about this one, is there? There are hundreds of venues around the emirates that offer cheese and wine nights, on most nights of the week, so you just need to look up one in your area, and off you go! Salute!Β

  • Musical fountains

Best to go on a week night to avoid the crazy crowds of Dubai Mall… but once you’re there, book dinner at one of the restaurants at either the mall or Souk al Bahar, overlooking the fountains, and sit back and enjoy the show πŸ™‚

  • Get out of Dubai

This one may take up more than just an evening / night, but a great way to spend some ‘alone time’ is to head out to Al Ain, take a winding drive up Jebel Hafeet for some amazing views, and then you can head down to the park for a picnic, or to the zoo for something different 🐻

  • Dinner and a dhow

For a slight Arabic twist on just a normal dinner night, why not head down to Madinat Jumeirah for dinner. A great way to make the night seem to never end is to start off with sundowners at Bahri Bar, then hop on a dhow, enjoying a lazy ride to the Madinat, and head off for that scrumptious dinner at a restaurant of your choice.

  • Running date

So, this one could be turned into any type of sporty date, if you’re not a runner. But it’s as simple as making a plan to meet up and head out for a run, nice and early in the morning (even better if he picks you up from your house, and stops in for coffee afterwards πŸ™‚ )

  • Picnic on the beach

Pretty much self explanatory… I once chose the beach as a venue for a picnic date because I am a city girl – I grew up very far away from the beach, so I thought that this would be something fun and different to do. One thing to be sure of when planning this – check the weather! While it doesn’t rain often in this part of the world, it does get windy and you certainly don’t want to be getting romantic on a beach with wind blowing sand into all of your food 😳

(Other than paddleboarding being mentioned first, the rest of these are in no specific order. I have only mentioned activities that I have personally done on dates – there are many, many, many more ideas around town…. just use some imagination ❀ )
