I almost didn’t get out of bed at stupid o’ clock this morning for my run, and what a disappointment that would have been!
The run started out on a sour note – headphones were flat! But I was not going to let that deter me now that I’d actually made it out of bed 😉 I simply headed off, one foot in front of the other, not planning on pushing myself too hard.
Once I’d reached my turn-around point, I was feeling great and my legs were in the mood to push a bit so I did, and while I was doing so I heard footsteps behind me, getting closer… and then a dude overtaking me. We waved and said our friendly good morning, and off he went into the distance.
By now I was starting to push myself a little more – amazing what someone who’s faster than you in front of you does – and while I knew I’d never catch him, it was fun to enjoy the push. Eventually he disappeared out of sight but as I rounded a corner, there he was standing on the side of the road at the entrance to (presumably) his building. He had been waiting for me to pass! He clapped me on with a friendly “Go! Go! Go!” and so that’s what I did!
The run that almost never was, turned out to be one of the most fun runs I’ve had in a while – even without music! Amazing what a little support and a friendly smile – from someone who knows exactly what you’re going through – can do 🙂
