…. and 5km runs/walks/skips/dances!
It was the Colour Run here in Dubai again, a couple of weekends ago (slow to get this posted, sorry!) and the city was once again filled with smiles, energy, laughter, music and colour as 12,000 people made their way around the 5km course, bright and early in the morning 🙂
I once again teamed up with some friends to do the run/walk/skip/dance. K&B fetched me at 7:15am, we headed over to L&H, picked them up and headed over to the venue… dressing the boys up in tutu’s and long socks as we got out of the car 😉 We then headed over to the start line where the place was teeming with thousands upon thousands of colour runners, who were still all white at this stage. The music was going, the host was getting everyone excited, people were jabbering away, taking photos and generally having a great time!
We were quite far back at the start line – it took us over an hour of waiting (they were letting through roughly 1,000 people at a time, every 6 minutes or so) so while we were standing there waiting to be let through, we saw the front runners come through, doused in pink… good fun!
Our wave finally arrived and off we went… doing a little bit of a jog to start off with. A few selfies were taken along the way (none that came out decently haha) and next thing we knew we were at the yellow, 1km mark 🙂 Time to start getting dirty!
Unfortunately by the time we got there, the barrels were empty and the blowy-canister things were empty, so in order to get yellowed we had to pick up the colouring from the floor (the volunteers were sweeping it up and sort of throwing it at runners, which seemed to work quite well). This continued through all of the colours… when we reached the blue we decided we wanted to roll around on the ground which would make getting dirty a little easier – but as we got closer they started announcing that no rolling was allowed 😦 We were not happy that this was meant to be the happiest 5k on the planet and the one thing that would make us happy was now outlawed. Until we got there… there were people rolling around all over the place so we did too! At the pink we even lay on the ground and had a fabulous photo taken from above us 🙂
After the run/walk/skip/dance (which took us roughly an hour to complete) we hung around for a while getting involved in the colour party, having a bit of a bum wiggle to the music and then we all headed over to L&H’s place for some cleaning up and some delicious pancakes, bacon and mimosas for breakfast!! (I forgot to take a photo so here’s one courtesy of google… I promise ours looked like that 😉 )
