Office challenge, take 2!

It’s that time of year again… the time where I start kicking the butts of my lazy colleagues and get some fitness happening in this office! 😛

In August last year I did a challenge called “Shoot for the moon” to see how quickly we could get to the moon as a team, using the minutes spent exercising as kilometers travelled.

This time I’m taking a slightly different approach and I’m going to try making the 6-week programme more of a lifestyle change (well, as long a lifestyle one can have in 6 weeks, anyway!)

I’m starting everyone off with a basic fitness challenge comprising of a 3-minutes step test, push ups, plank and sit-and-reach. The office will then be divided into 2 teams and people will earn points for different things, and lose points for others… for example:

Drinking water, eating fruit, walking up stairs, going to gym, stretching after exercise… these will all earn you points.

Eating sweets / cake during the week (I’m allowing one cheat day), not going to the gym for a whole week, phoning someone in the office instead of getting up and talking to them… these will all have points taken away from you.

At the end of the 6 weeks, everyone will re-do the fitness tests and prizes will be given to the highest scoring team as well as the individual who makes the most improvement in their fitness test.

We are fortunate in the company I work for that we have a gym onsite and are encouraged to use it, during work hours. We also have Pilates, Yoga, Kickboxing and Zumba classes during work hours which we are encouraged to join. Yes, we are very spoilt 😉

Does your company do any fitness programmes? Are you encouraged to eat / stay healthy at work? What office challenges have you participated in?
